The Exploration of Evolution!
Our exciting new topic (What Mr Darwin Saw), started with Year 6 venturing outside for a hands-on bug hunt! The children explored the school grounds to find and observe a variety of insects in their natural habitats. From beetles and ants to spiders and worms, each tiny creature sparked thoughtful discussion and questions. Pupils were encouraged to hypothesise how each insect had evolved unique adaptations—like camouflage, speed, or stingers—to survive and thrive in their environment. The lesson was a fantastic way to engage with the theme, encouraging scientific thinking, teamwork and a deeper appreciation for the natural world. A brilliant start to what promises to be a captivating unit of learning!
