23 Jan Year 5 – Viking Raid on Lindisfarne!
This week in History, Year 5 were re-enacting the Viking raid on Lindisfarne. A small group of us were monks and the rest of us were Vikings. Lindisfarne was the first major Viking raid in AD 793. We learnt that the monasteries were an easy target for a number of reasons: they were full of valuables and treasure, they were often built in remote coastal locations and they were ‘guarded’ by monks.
