13 Mar Year 5 – Latitude, Longitude and Time Zones
This week we were very lucky to have a professional astronomer talk to us about latitude, longitude and time zones. This was linked to our Geography unit of locational knowledge, answering our big question ‘How does the shape and position of the Earth affect the regions of the world?’ We thought about how the Earth’s rotation explains day and night and the movement of the Sun across the sky. We also identified the position and significance of key lines of longitude and latitude on the globe. Finally, we were treated to some intriguing answers to some of the questions we had.
