27 Nov The ARP – Creating a wormery
As part of our Creepy Crawlies topic, we made a wormery. We listened to our teachers as they gave us instructions. First, we filled an empty fizzy drinks bottle with layers of sand, soil and shredded newspaper. We squirted each layer with some water. Next, we observed the worms. Some were long and some were short, some wiggled and some were slow. We had to be very careful and gentle as we placed the worms in the bottle. Over the next week, we will feed them vegetable scraps and dead leaves to ensure they survive. Finally, we wrapped the bottle in black card as worms do not like light. Hopefully when we carefully observe them, we will see them burrowing in the bottle. Watch this space!
