03 Oct Reading Leaders – Visit to Foyles Book shop – London
A trip to Foyles!
Today, our newly appointed Reading Leads, joined by selected House Captains, embarked on an inspiring school trip to one of central London’s most iconic literary landmarks —Foyles on Charing Cross Road. The purpose? To explore how world-class bookstores create inviting and engaging spaces that make people want to pick up a book and read for pleasure. As soon as we stepped into this flagship store, the children got straight to work — not with pens and worksheets, but with curious eyes and open minds. They examined everything from how books were displayed and categorised, to the atmosphere, lighting, signage, and even seating arrangements. Armed with notebooks, they jotted down ideas that sparked their interest and began imagining how similar “book vibes” could be recreated back at school.
Throughout the visit, every pupil showed exemplary behaviour, collaborating thoughtfully and respectfully with one another. They shared ideas, discussed what they found appealing and fed back their thoughts to their Team Leader. From the bold, curated book displays to quiet reading nooks and genre-themed sections, our students noticed the little things that made a big impact.
We are so proud of the Reading Leads and House Captains for their mature approach and insightful contributions. They’ve brought back a wealth of ideas that we’re excited to begin weaving into our school’s reading spaces and culture. Well done to our Reading Leads — we can’t wait to see your ideas come to life and help nurture a stronger reading-for-pleasure ethos across the school!
