14 Jun Year 6 – Junior Citizens Event
This week, Year 6 had a very successful and enjoyable trip to the Junior Citizen Event. They engaged with a number of different groups to find out information that will smooth their transition to secondary school. They participated in scenarios that were designed to raise their awareness of what they can do to increase their safety. The Metropolitan Police’s presentation was about stranger danger. They learned how to check fire alarms and exit the house safely in the event of a fire from the London Fire Brigade. The London Ambulance service taught them DR ABC, to deal with a medical emergency. TFL gave advice on using buses and trains safely and made them aware of the Zip Card they will need once they are 11. Vandome Cycles gave advice about cycling safely and ‘Subwize’, a local young people’s drug and alcohol service, spoke to pupils about the dangers of drugs and alcohol. Thames Water presented information about how to not block sewers. We were very pleased with their behaviour and the way in which they participated in the scenarios.
