Year 5 have been experimenting using a range of different techniques with charcoal to replicate a variety of illustrations by Charles Kenning, as reviewed in our Topic text, The Highwayman. We used thick/thin strokes using the tip of the charcoal, smudging techniques and created different gradients and tones using the edge of the charcoal. Though messy, we had fun and produced art pieces to be proud of!
