Year 4 – DT

This term, for our unit ‘Truly Scrumptious’, Year 4 learnt all about chocolate. We learnt about the journey from the cacao bean to the finished product which is the chocolate bar in your shops. Pupils were fascinated to learn that chocolate is grown as a crop and goes through a long process before it enters our shops. We also discuss food miles which shows the length of the journey products make from the country they are grown to the country they are sold – some products travel as far as thousands of miles!

We began by tasting various flavours of chocolate, determining which ones we liked best. We then invented and designed our own flavour of chocolate with accompanying chocolate wrappers. Eventually, we had the opportunity to make our very own flavour of chocolate which we tasted. Pupils really enjoyed working through the process and the products turned out to be truly scrumptious!
