Spring Term 2026 Newsletter
Dear Parents and Carers,
World Book Day
A Wonderful Celebration of Reading –
its all about the books!

Beauty and the Beast – a tale as old as time. Originally written by French novelist Gabrielle-Suzanne Barbot de Villeneive in 1740. Most of us today know the Disney film version of this classic story.
We had a fantastic time celebrating World Book Day in school this week. Pupils and staff embraced the day with enthusiasm, sharing favourite stories, discussing beloved characters and enjoying a range of reading activities across the school. The costumes, book discussions and classroom events created a real buzz about books and storytelling.
Events like World Book Day remind us how important it is for children to develop a lifelong love of reading. Reading for pleasure plays a vital role in children’s development: it strengthens language, fuels imagination, builds empathy and supports success across the whole curriculum. Most importantly, it opens the door to new worlds, ideas and possibilities.

We are incredibly proud of the way our pupils engaged with the day and the excitement they showed for books. Thank you to families for supporting the celebration and for continuing to encourage reading at home. Sharing stories together—whether through bedtime books, library visits or simply talking about what children are reading—helps nurture confident, enthusiastic readers.

Bumblebee Class share their favourite books!
Together we can ensure that reading remains at the heart of our school community.

Free Books for your child!
Your child came home with a book voucher yesterday. This can be redeemed for a World Book Day book at Dagenham Heathway Library on 6th & 23rd March 3:30pm-5pm. Please do take advantage of this offer. Some books will be available that require some additional payment so please encourage your child to bring along their pocket money should they prefer to buy one of those chargeable books. Book swap – coming soon!
We will soon be starting a weekly book swap every Monday after school. Simply bring along a book you have read that’s in good condition and someone else might want to read and swap for a book that someone else no longer needs.
