Our Curriculum Vision
Intent
At Parsloes Primary School, personal, social, health and economic (PSHE) education is an embedded part of our broad and balanced curriculum, to enable our pupils to become independent, responsible, healthy and confident members of society. Children are helped to understand how they are developing personally and socially as as well as promoting their mental and physical development. Children will be able to develop the ability to tackle the moral, social and cultural issues that are part of growing up. Through discrete teaching, children will understanding what constitutes a healthy lifestyle, develop self-confidence, maintain positive relationships with others, demonstrate respect and understand how to keep themselves safe.

Implementation
PSHE is taught at least once a week, as well as Mindful Mondays and Votes for Schools. Often, the three subjects interconnect very well as Votes for Schools regularly discuss current issues that could impact pupils and their families; these include issues that are happening locally, nationally and even internationally.
As a school, we use Jigsaw, which is a primary PSHE scheme including statutory Relationships and Health Education. In a spiral, progressive programme, it gives the children relevant learning experiences to help them navigate their world and to develop positive relationships with themselves and others. With strong emphasis on emotional literacy, building resilience and nurturing mental and physical health, Jigsaw 3-11 properly equips schools to deliver engaging and relevant PSHE within a whole-school approach. Jigsaw lessons also include mindfulness allowing children to advance their emotional awareness, concentration and focus.
Pupils at Parsloes are taught how to positively become members of their community. We ensure that through the school, children take part in national events such as Children in Need and Anti-Bullying Week; understanding how they can help the community they live in. With the use of circle time and discussions in class, pupils are able to express their opinions in a safe environment and listen to differing views respectfully.
Language Acquisition – Vocabulary relating PSHE is identified and taught progressively across the school. Children learn how to talk and relate to each other whilst showing respect for differing points of view and experiences.
Empowering Experiences – Our PSHE curriculum is enriched by a variety of sources from outside school.
Active and Hands-on Learning – Children have regular opportunities to engage in discussion and debate across the PSHE curriculum.
Relevance to our Diverse Community – Children are taught to understanding differences in cultures and beliefs. Diversity is woven throughout the PSHE curriculum.
New Knowledge and Skills – The PSHE curriculum is sequenced progressively to ensure prior learning is referred to and built upon.
