At Parsloes Primary School we provide all children with full access to the curriculum, enabling them to achieve confidence and competence – ‘mastery’ – in maths. This will enable them to develop the new maths skills and knowledge they need for the future. It is essential to everyday life and therefore, by providing a high-quality mathematics curriculum, we are ensuring a foundation for understanding the world, the ability to reason mathematically, as well as encouraging the pupils to appreciate the sense of enjoyment and curiosity they can have about the subject.

Our English curriculum is designed to immerse children in a range of language-rich texts and therefore develop their speaking, listening, reading and writing skills, with language acquisition at the heart. Our carefully chosen texts reflect the diverse communities we teach and inspire a life-long love of reading.

At Parsloes Primary School, we believe that all children at our school can become fluent readers and value reading as a crucial life skill. We teach early reading through Little Wandle Letters and Sounds Revised, which is a systematic and synthetic phonics programme.

Reading has a high priority across the school and emphasis is placed on reading in all year groups from Nursery to Year 6. Parsloes Primary School is committed to ensuring that all children become fluent readers by the age of seven. This is achieved by teaching reading through a systematic synthetic phonics programme, Little Wandle Letters and Sounds Revised, and by immersing children in a range of high quality texts.

At Parsloes Primary School we believe that a high-quality RE education equips pupils to be thoughtful considered citizens, with an understanding of how to be in the world both as individuals and as corporate citizens. This allows themselves and others to be the best they can be.

At Parsloes Primary School, PSHE is taught as an independent subject as well as being integrated into other lessons. The reason for this is because we at Parsloes believe that pupils must be aware of how learning about your personal and social relationships can help in their day to day decision making.
